OUR PRODUCTS

QUALITY LENSES

The heart of optometry has historically been the prescribing and dispensing of corrective lenses and at Dyson & Long we take great pride in remaining at the forefront of spectacle lens technology. Lens design and manufacture have seen rapid advances over the past few years, with most lenses we dispense now being unique custom designs ground on precision freeform surfacing machines.

This technology has allowed huge leaps in optical quality and design, routinely applied to everything from simple reading glasses through to high-curvature impact resistant multifocal sport lenses.

Materials, coatings and even tints have advanced to keep pace with this evolving technology, allowing us to better design and manufacture the perfect lenses for vision and lifestyle needs.

LENS OPTIONS

QUALITY LENSES

Multifocal lenses have advanced enormously over the last few years, evolving into a range of customisable designs able to satisfy even the most discerning wearer. Multifocal lenses provide the wearer with clear vision over a large range of distances and are designed to suit particular needs. Specific emphasis may be placed on more important aspects of lifestyle, such as driving, computer use or a demanding occupation. Lenses may also be produced with an almost unlimited choice of materials, tints and coatings.

Extended Focus Reader lenses offer a far greater range of clear vision than traditional reading glasses, designed to address the challenges to vision posed by computer screen use. These lenses can also offer many benefits in non-computer tasks, avoiding a restricted view. Like multifocals, these lenses can now be customised using freeform technology to suit the user’s unique demands more precisely.

Light-reactive tints have been available in spectacle lenses for decades, but we are seeing renewed popularity with the development of better performing products and more choices in features. These tints are now available on most lens types and materials, and come in a variety of colours from traditional greys and brown to specialized tones including reds, yellows and blues. Darker and lighter shades are possible, with more advanced products offering polarisation and in-car reactivity.

Rimless frames have seen a huge resurgence which has posed challenges in developing lens materials which will resist cracking and chipping. At Dyson & Long we dispense many such rimless spectacles and only use premium quality lens materials designed to resist the stresses these frames present. Instead of the optically inferior polycarbonate lenses sometimes recommended for these frames, we use a much tougher and superior material which results in longer lasting and better performing lenses. Fitted to our exquisite Silhouette rimless frames from Austria, the result is a pair of incredibly light yet tough pair of spectacles which cannot be matched for comfort, style and performance.

Sunglasses

Sunglasses are both an important piece of eye protection against UV as well as a fashion accessory. They need to be functional, meet the highest standards of protection and quality, while giving you the look you desire. Dyson & Long strive to maintain a comprehensive range of sunglasses to meet all these needs, ranging from Maui Jim to Oroton, from Spotters to Serengeti, plus Zeal, Furla and more. Sport, fashion, lifestyle and children’s ranges are all catered for and are displayed in our dedicated sunglass area. We even carry an extensive range of clip-on and fit over sunglasses to complement your existing spectacles.

As optometrists, we also ensure a large proportion of our sunglass range is suitable for prescription lenses. With modern computer-generated freeform lens designs we can turn almost any spectacle prescription into a stylish and optically correct pair of sunglasses. Our expert staff can also advise you on considerations such as polarised lenses, tint options, lens coatings and much more.

Our range is constantly updating as new models and ranges become available, so drop in and have a look at some of the latest high-quality sunglasses we have on display.

Contact Lenses

There are many different types of contact lens available to the modern wearer.

Your Dyson & Long optometrist will discuss the most suitable for your needs, based on your vision correction, eye health and lifestyle. You will also receive expert tuition on the handling and care of your lenses to ensure safe and enjoyable lens wear for many years to come.

Contact lenses

Soft disposable lenses

By far the most popular class of contact lenses in the world, these lenses have revolutionised contact lens wear. Soft Disposable Lenses are comfortable, low maintenance and affordable lenses to a large proportion of the population. Lenses are available in daily, fortnightly, monthly and extended (overnight) wear materials, and can correct most prescriptions including astigmatism and even multifocal needs.

Rigid Gas Permeable Lenses

A more specialised type of lens, these are custom-made lenses designed to precisely correct a patient’s unique eyes. They are often fitted where a soft lens offers inadequate vision or performance, or for unusually high and irregular prescriptions. These lenses require a high degree of skill to fit successfully but can offer the wearer exceptional vision often exceeding that obtained with spectacles.

Mini-scleral Lenses

These are a larger type of rigid gas permeable lens, favoured by specialist contact lens fitters to correct certain abnormal eye types and eye diseases. Whilst challenging to design and fit, they can restore sight to eyes where often all else has failed. Your optometrist will advise you if you would benefit from such lenses–typically when an irregular or diseased cornea prevents successful vision correction with conventional spectacle or contact lenses.

Orthokeratology (Ortho-K)

This is a procedure for correcting eyesight by reshaping the surface of the cornea, using specially designed rigid lenses. These lenses are worn overnight whilst you sleep, and are removed during the day, offering lens-free corrected vision. This is the perfect solution for those who do not wish to wear spectacles or contact lenses during the day and may be averse to surgical correction. For example, someone whose prescription continues to change. Ortho-K lenses have even been shown to slow the progression of conditions such as myopia.
